DISENCHANTED // DISNEY

As a member of the Set Decoration team for 'Disenchanted,' I was involved in the creative process of bringing the magical world of the Disney sequel to life. We approached the project with a goal of creating a cohesive and immersive world that built upon the established themes of the previous film, while also incorporating fresh and unique elements.

Collaborating with the Art Department was crucial to ensure that our sets were cohesive with the overall look and feel of the film. We worked to ensure that every detail, from the sprawling market towns to the high-flying New York offices, was carefully crafted and designed to transport viewers into our world.

One of the most exciting aspects of the project was our ability to produce bespoke hand props, furniture, and soft furnishings. This required a combination of creativity, precision, and technical skill. We were constantly seeking inspiration from previous Disney projects as well as deeply researching into Art Nouveau motifs. We worked to incorporate unique design elements in every corner of our designs that would define the Film whilst also nodding to previous incarnations in the franchise.

One element I particularly enjoyed was when we took the design from a Window in the opening scene in the First Film “Enchanted” and turned the same design into an aplique picnic blanket for the closing scene in the sequel.

We provided design briefs to our extended team of Home Economists, prop makers, and Set Dec construction team. This helped to ensure that everyone was working towards a shared vision and that our sets were consistent in style and tone. We held regular meetings to keep ourselves on track whilst spinning many plates and simultaneously shooting multiple large-format sets.

Thanks to our efficient workflow and a extensive list of reliable suppliers, we were able to create an array of hand-stitched soft props, custom-designed horse carts, bespoke printed elements and brilliantly crafted special makes. Our buyers worked tirelessly to source furniture and other small items that fit within the iconicly Disney aesthetic, and our in-house scenic workshop was able to bring these items to life with expert skill.

My experience working on 'Disenchanted' as a member of the Set Decoration team was incredibly rewarding. We were given the oportunity to flex our creative muscles, collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry and bring a beloved Disney world back to life in a fresh and exciting way.
