WEDDING SEASON

DISNEY+

Wedding Season is an action-packed romantic thriller for Disney+, following Stefan and Katie through eight episodes we find them in several engagement parties, five weddings and a steadily escalating trail of chaos left in their wake.

Production Designer Tim Dickel’s concept used colour to distinguish between the series’ two timelines. Flashbacks were filled with vibrant pinks and blues, while the present day moved into deeper, more natural tones of burgundy and sage green. This contrast helped create momentum as the story moved between past and present.

As Set Decorator, I worked with my buying team to develop the detail, action props and individual character of each environment. Floristry became one of the defining visual threads across the weddings, from dressing Manchester Cathedral and creating abundant beach florals to suspending floral displays inside large ice sculptures. Rather than treating the flowers as a finishing touch, we allowed them to lead the look and atmosphere of each celebration.

Each wedding was designed as an extension of the couple, using visual contrast to sharpen their personalities. Katie’s engagement party unfolded in the austere mystery of a Victorian Gothic Revival hotel bar, filled with deep, brooding florals. Her lavish wedding then shifted into baby pinks and pastel blues, a deliberately sugary counterpoint to her increasingly menacing character.

Elsewhere, Leila and Anil’s wildly creative celebration transformed an abandoned swimming pool with oversized clamshells, sculpted balloon forms, hundreds of metres of bunting and wonderfully eclectic crockery. Rory and Yuna’s wedding brought Scottish and Asian traditions together through tartan, pattern and texture, with towering columns wrapped entirely in asparagus fern and tartan banners hanging in the church. Even Hannah’s ill-fated wedding to her former driving instructor had its own gloriously tacky visual language: learner-driver props, foil heart balloons and a zebra crossing leading down the aisle towards their parked learner car. Each celebration had to feel unmistakably rooted in the people behind it, rather than simply becoming another beautiful wedding.

The production involved more than 100 sets and several substantial location dresses across a demanding multi-city schedule. From the rugged landscape of the Scottish Highlands to the bright lights of Las Vegas, it was a considerable exercise in designing, sourcing, planning and coordination. We delivered the series on budget, while giving every location its own distinct character.
